Can 2 toads of different species get permantly stuck together by breeding?

Written by scottology on December 17, 2009 – 9:58 pm -

My granddaughter found two toads of different species that are apparently permantly stuck together. The toad on top has his two front feet (or paws) imbedded in the sides of the toad on the bottom. They don’t seem to be in pain, and they both don’t seem worse for wear. Just wondering how it happened?

They are not permanently stuck together. The male is simply determined. The female was most likely on her way to a breeding site when she encountered the male. They are most likely the same species.
I recommend that you release them in the nearest wetland and let them finish what they started.

Male frogs and toads, like teenagers, will mount anything that doesn’t throw them off. I got one frog to grab my fingers once. Eventually, he will let go of her.
