Thanks for your answer, it was useful. It’s nice that you have some knowledge about reptiles, there are few vets who know what they’re talking about. I was so glad to see that the diarhea phase is over, vets don’t know anything except fenbendazole lol. I’ll start giving mine 1-2 wax worms a week to fatten her up a bit, her tail isn’t what it used to be.

One night his sutures came out when his abscess was left partially open to drain. The only place that dealt with reptiles was closed & no one else took anything but cats/dogs. My own clinic where I worked didn’t specialize in reptiles & was closed on my day off, so I took the liberty to suture him back up myself w/a suture pack. Wasn’t easy, but I did it, having no choice w/ open surgery site. And one of the vets who worked w/the zoo vet said I did a good job. She took them out for free.

I confess I am not expert, and even though I claimed earlier to be a vet tech, it’s only for small animals (usually cats and dogs) though I have dabbled with reptiles on occasion. But since there seems to be a shortage on me finding someone who deals w/these animals, I learn what I can and provide as much info as I can give. I’ve had Gary for about 5 years now, and I just learn what I can. But most geckos are tough & do well in the long run. Gary had surgery once and did great.

Well mine (Gary) has that. Yeah, he does that sometimes after he sheds. However, if they diarrhead doesn’t go away, it could mean parasites. Take him to the vet & they’ll set up a stool sample and check and see if anything shows up in the stool. Oh, you say it did stop, that’s good. Gary-my gecko is being a picky eater too since fall is coming. Sometimes they’ll eat a lot at once, store fat in the tail and go a day or two without eating much. They are nocturnal and usually feed at night.

i have a question: is it possible for them to have diarhea and loss of appetite because of shedding? mine has recently shed, the diarhea stopped like 2 days ago but she still won’t eat like before. she used to hunt the crickets down as soon as i put them in there, eating sometimes more than 10 in 5 minutes, now she would only eat them after i turn the lights off and go to sleep (i have to put food in there for crickets so they won’t hurt the gecko)

If you’re wanting to fatten ur gecko up mealworms and waxworms are good as they have a higher fat content than crickets. Be careful with not too many waxworms though as they are like junk food and they can get addicted to them.

to the powder only enough to make a smoothylike paste. Do not force mouth open forcely, use gently coaxing motion or rub with your finger on mouth to get gecko to lick paste off. do not feed more than 0.2-0.3 ccs/minute. Allow time for gecko to swallow. These powdered feeding supplements are by T. Rex foods and SandFire. Can be found at Petco. Also keep gecko warm or the cold will cause runny nose and eyes and eventually death. Keep environment moise or keep shed box w/damp moss.

any health questions on geckos, ask me. I have one name Gary. They can get abscesses especially if you accidentally drop them or they jump. Usually in the tail area. Males sometimes get abscess in under the tail where they do their business or their glands. These need to be drained completely and a good antibiotic from vet. If they are sick or not eating b/c too weak from illness, gently force-feed with small 1 cc syringe. (You can buy some supplement powder feed, add water

calcium powder is great to put on the crickets, as well as keeping in the dish.
