a zipgun is an improvised firearm such like would be used by a poor teenager in the 50’s to get some fast money.A sixgun makes me think the song is referenced in the old west which I find to be kind of lame.I did love the sound though of fullers stratocaster better than the crickets version.

he changed it because zipgun didn’t make sense to him, I think six gun works better personally

Takes me back a few years, and brings back great memories. I was 19 when Sonny Curtis and The Crickets unloaded this rocker. Yeah, 50 years ago this was real rockin’ stuff!

I just wish bobby fuller had not changed the lyrics to “six gun”.It sounds more real the way sonny curtis wrote the original.

Yeah, this was after Buddy Holly. Not sure who the singer is. You could check a reference website like Wikipedia?

Who’s singing lead? Earl Sinks? Sonny Curtis? Sure isn’t Buddy Holly.

Well, I’ll be! I had no idea that the Crickets did this song… I’ve been so immersed in the Bobby Fuller Four one all these years. (all my life to be exact!)
It’s great to get re-educated in rock an’ roll, and one is never too old to learn what was there all along!
    Thanx, doowoplS4ever!

This is the Crickets and Sonny Curtis wrote this song…Buddy Holly wasn’t with the Crickets when this was recorded. It is Earl Henry Sinks aka Earl “Snake” Richards singing this.
