Are they dying? if so how can i keep the next batch alive? What cause them to die in the pupa stage? Whatever you use, it needs to be plastic so the beetles can't climb the slick surface. Sometimes the pupa go to the top, but sometimes not. Just take a spoon and dig around, you'll find it.
