Mosquitoes Can Transmit These Viral Diseases

Written by Stephanie Bray on July 11, 2010 – 3:19 pm -

If you spend a lot of time out of doors, you should be aware that annoying mosquitoes can carry an array of viral diseases that could threaten your life.

Most people have already heard about the correlation between mosquitoes and West Nile virus. However, there are numerous other diseases mosquitoes bring that the general population does not know about. Unfortunately, if the news does not report a person contracting a mosquito transmitted disease, nearly everyone would not even be aware these diseases even exist. Mosquitoes are one of the deadliest & dirtiest creatures known to man.

The following include some of the viral diseases mosquitoes can bring: – dengue fever – epidemic poly arthritis – Japanese encephalitis – LaCross encephalitis – Rift Valley fever – Ross River Fever – St. Louis encephalitis – West Nile virus – yellow fever

There are many more types of diseases mosquitoes can carry. These are just some of them. Mosquitoes are also the sole carrier of malaria, the planet’s leading cause of early demise.

Over 5.3 million fatalities happen each year because of the mosquito genus Anopheles. They are the mosquitoes that bring the malaria virus. Children under the age of five make up most of these fatalities.

Nearly all mosquitoes are capable of carrying the filariasis worm, the cause of the disease elephantiasis. Approximately 40 million people worldwide are currently suffering from some form of this disease.

Although these facts seem terrible, they are not the most dreaded part of the mosquito problem. As we age, mosquito bites are often undetected. In children, mosquito bites often cause their skin to swell up & turn red. In adults, however, they tend to build resistance to these bites.

True, some types of mosquito types can’t be rid of; the mosquitoes can be warded off or repelled using simple mosquito repellents & nets. Keep these creatures away from your body & stay healthy, to prevent acquiring sick from these terrible insects.

Using Boric Dust To Eliminate Cockroach: Proven Pest Control Method

Written by Stephanie Bray on July 8, 2010 – 7:14 pm -

Cockroaches are creepy pests that like hiding in dark places in the room especially in the kitchen where they survive on discarded food stuff. Cockroaches also like to hatch their eggs in the cabinets where it is cool and dark. It can really be frightening to feel a cockroach walk on the back of your neck after you have worn your shirt.

The 1997 movie Men In Black highlighted an alien taking the form of a cockroach as the scum of the universe. Indeed, cockroaches make it to the first spot for the most terrifying pests, with rats, mosquitoes, ants, and bed bugs next in line. Just imagining them makes you want to throw up.

You definitely would not want these pests anywhere near you and your family. Still, these pesky pests have lived with humans since the beginning of time. Cockroaches, in particular, are notorious for not easily dying even when exposed to the strongest of pest sprays.

So is it true that cockroaches can escape from a nuclear blast? A study explains that indeed, cockroaches will survive extremely high doses of radiation. The DNA present in the roach’s exoskeletal system is more able to rebuild when exposed to and, consequently, damaged from nuclear radiation.

Luckily, for mankind and for Mother Nature, pest control does not require nuclear weaponry. Sure hits can be delivered with military precision by your foot, if you decide to take a “personal stand” on the matter, or by professional pest control companies.

Pest control companies commonly use boric dust to prevent a population of roaches, mosquitoes and rats. The boric dust is made of boric acid or boron salt. It has a many commercial uses, primarily for roach control. Higher concentration of boron means the dust is in its pure form. If you intend to apply it yourself, make sure to read, understand, and strictly follow the instructions.

Otherwise, leave it to the experts. Getting the services of pest control companies is more practical since many have been in the work of keeping homes protected from pests for years. Ultimate pest control is not a luxury but a need. This is because pests are bearers of disease-causing bacteria and germs and, therefore, pose a serious threat to good health.

2 Telltale Signs Of Bed Bug Infestation

Written by Stephanie Bray on July 8, 2010 – 3:01 pm -

Bed bugs are insects that cause itches & rashes, and beds are their most common area. You may already have them and you don’t even know it. These creatures are miniscule & difficult to detect. The best way to get rid of them is to ask a termite exterminator or pest control company to do the job.

You may wonder what the signs & symptoms of a bed bug infestation are There are two common signs, and they are the following:

1. Rash From Bed Bugs

Itching is the first sign of a bed bug rash. You won’t be able to see the rash at first but it will definitely feel itchy. They are itchier than mosquito bites, and the itch can usually be sensed 1 hour after the bite. In some cases, the bed bug rash appears only after a few days or weeks.

You can identify a bed bug rash when it has a small, round and red bump that looks more swollen than a mosquito rash. In some cases, the rash looks a lot like a bite mark in sequence. If you think you may have bed bug rash, a few days of examining it wouldn’t hurt. The rash causes prolonged itching for days together. Also, a bed bug rash doesn’t heal as quickly as mosquito bites. They remain swollen for weeks at a time.

2. Bed Bug Odor

Next thing to look for is bed bug smell. What smell do they give off?

Bed bugs release a musty, obnoxious odor, so a room where there’s plenty of bed bug infestation smells of it. You may find this odor under the headboard and mattresses. If your sofas have cracks, check if they’ve got bed bug odor. They are also sometimes infested with bed bugs.

You should contact pest control experts immediately if you happen to have a bed bug infestation. Afterwards, you should create pest control rules at home to prevent a repeat of this incident.

The Many Kinds Of Rats

Written by Stephanie Bray on July 8, 2010 – 2:07 pm -

Rats are rodents that belong to the Rattus genus of the family Muridae. These are the most dominant species on earth. Plenty of rat species exist in the planet. Most rodents eat plants, but some feed upon animals as well. In general, there are 2 basic rat types. They are black or roof rats and Norway or brown rats. Both are believed to have originated in Asia and are now widely spread throughout the planet.

Ship Rats

Roof rats (known as Rattus Rattus) are also called black rats and ship rats. These rats are normally black in color, slender, 16-21 cm long & weigh about 80-300 grams. Their tail is longer than the head and body and their nose and muzzle are pointed. As the name suggest, roof rats are climbers. Their paws are built to climb and build nestles in higher parts of dwellings, attics, rafters and crossbeams of buildings.

Norway Rat

The brown rat, which is also known as the Norway rat, house rat, gray rat, barn rat, and wharf rat, is the larger of the two mentioned here, and one of the best-known species. Their scientific name is Rattus norvegicus. They are mostly grayish-brown, with a lighter colored stomach. A fully-grown brown rat is 18 to 26 cm long & weighs between 400 and 600 grams. Their tail is shorter than its body and their nose and muzzle are blunt. They prefer moist conditions and nest in deep burrows.

These rats breed when they are three to four months of age. They breed up to 13 times a year & produce 1 to 22 in each litter. Black rats & brown rats eat about the same things. Their diet usually consists of meats, seeds, nuts, grains, vegetables, fruits, cereals & invertebrates. They consume about one-third of their weight in food every 24 hours.

They carry fatal diseases, damage structures and contaminate food. Some of the diseases potentially deadly to man that spread through rats are Weil’s disease, plague, salmonella food poisoning & toxoplasmosis.

Pest Control Techniques That Don’t Endanger The Environment

Written by David Jones on July 4, 2010 – 7:17 pm -

A witty rat is one that is not easily caught, and one that can grow a colony while you are sleeping. A rat is a household pest that can be extremely destructive. It can nibble clothes, wirings on your home theatre, or on that pricey Persian rug. Pest control professionals use time-tested ways to get rid of the most cunning of rats. In recent years, earth-friendly means of rat control have been introduced.

One of these means is creating compost. This is basically dug out in an area where you want to lead and do away with the pesky rodent. You can put piles into your compost utilising discarded food and other biodegradable garbage that rats usually take. Make sure to keep the compost far enough for the rat to find its way back to the house.

The problem with the compost is that rats can still get out of it, leading you to use other methods which are less effective and most of the time unsanitary. These include putting traps, or having cats chase the rats. What do you with your compost then?

Pest control companies will help save the day. You can plan to observe the compost and just before there is more population than it can handle, call your rat exterminator. As you desire to be earth-friendly, choose pest control companies that use certified environmentally safe chemicals. This is the same when you are dealing with a mosquito or cockroach problem.

You can also try to do the bucket strategy. Surround your compost with buckets, with each bucket containing bait. A rat, detecting the bait, will easily make its way into the bucket but will hardly make its way out. The bucket strategy can work for as many rats possible. After a rat gets trapped, it is then up to you to find a way to dispose of it. The bucket strategy can work for a rat; a different approach will be required for a mosquito or cockroach.
