Pest Control Techniques That Don’t Endanger The Environment
Written by David Jones on July 4, 2010 – 7:17 pm -A witty rat is one that is not easily caught, and one that can grow a colony while you are sleeping. A rat is a household pest that can be extremely destructive. It can nibble clothes, wirings on your home theatre, or on that pricey Persian rug. Pest control professionals use time-tested ways to get rid of the most cunning of rats. In recent years, earth-friendly means of rat control have been introduced.
One of these means is creating compost. This is basically dug out in an area where you want to lead and do away with the pesky rodent. You can put piles into your compost utilising discarded food and other biodegradable garbage that rats usually take. Make sure to keep the compost far enough for the rat to find its way back to the house.
The problem with the compost is that rats can still get out of it, leading you to use other methods which are less effective and most of the time unsanitary. These include putting traps, or having cats chase the rats. What do you with your compost then?
Pest control companies will help save the day. You can plan to observe the compost and just before there is more population than it can handle, call your rat exterminator. As you desire to be earth-friendly, choose pest control companies that use certified environmentally safe chemicals. This is the same when you are dealing with a mosquito or cockroach problem.
You can also try to do the bucket strategy. Surround your compost with buckets, with each bucket containing bait. A rat, detecting the bait, will easily make its way into the bucket but will hardly make its way out. The bucket strategy can work for as many rats possible. After a rat gets trapped, it is then up to you to find a way to dispose of it. The bucket strategy can work for a rat; a different approach will be required for a mosquito or cockroach.

These roaches love the taste of liquor and can often be found in drinking establishments or at home in case you had a party and didn’t clean up promptly. They can live for around one and half years, and have an incubation period of 6 to 8 weeks.
German Cockroach
The German cockroach has two lighter stripes on the back of its head, and boast of a tan or brownish color. They can grow up to lengths of 15mm. It is probably breeds the fastest among home pests, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. At this rate, one cockroach can multiply into 30,000 within a year. They can live for around six months.
Oriental Cockroach
They are probably the biggest of these three. It grows approximately 25mm in length. These critters move more slowly than the other species & are a dark brown or black color with a shiny body. Viruses Brought By Mosquitoes
Written by George Bray on February 4, 2010 – 10:00 am -People who spend a lot of time out-of-doors should be conscious that annoying mosquitoes can carry an array of viral diseases that could be deadly.
Even though most people have already heard about the correlation between mosquitoes & West Nile virus, there are many other diseases mosquitoes bring that the general population does not know about. It is an unfortunate fact that if the news does not report a person contracting a mosquito transmitted disease, nearly everyone wouldn’t even know the existence of these diseases at all. Mosquitoes are one of the deadliest and dirtiest pests known to man.
A few of the viral diseases mosquitoes can carry include the following: – dengue fever – epidemic polyarthritis – Japanese encephalitis – LaCross encephalitis – Rift Valley fever – Ross River Fever – St. Louis encephalitis – West Nile virus – yellow fever
These are just a few of the many other types of diseases mosquitoes can transmit. Mosquitoes are also the sole cause of malaria, the world’s leading cause of premature death.
The mosquito genus Anopheles cause over 5.3 million fatalities to occur each year. They are the mosquitoes that carry the malaria virus. Children under the age of 5 make up most of these deaths.
Nearly all mosquitoes are capable of carrying the filariasis worm, the cause of the disease elephantiasis. About 40 million people worldwide are currently dealing with some form of this disease.
Although these statistics seem terrible, they are not the most dreaded part of the mosquito problem. As we get older, mosquito bites are often undetected. In children, mosquito bites often cause their skin to swell up & turn red. In adults, however, they tend to build immunity to these bites.
True, some types of mosquito types can’t be obviated; the mosquitoes can be repelled or warded off using simple mosquito repellants and nets. Keep these creatures away from your body and stay healthy, to prevent getting diseases from these dreaded insects.
