Ants can be found all over the world, in any country, at any climate. We can find them in our backyards, in our homes, and even in our workplaces. They live in colonies, and a single colony may have over a million ants. There are several different types of ants. Some of the better-known kinds are the army ants, driver ants, honeypot ants, weaver ants, leaf cutter ants, fire ants, silver ants, and bulldog ants. Each ant colonies are comprised of three classes of ants, specifically the worker ants, the soldier ants, & the single queen ant.

Ants are of different types & are 1 of the most common creatures in the world. Regardless of their small size they may pose a threat to humans as well as animals.

Ant behavior may be different according to their class. The size of ants range from two to 25 millimeters & their color may vary from red to brown or black.

Army ants and driver ants are highly developed ants. Driver ants are seen in Africa & army ants can be seen in South America. Unlike other ants, these don’t have permanent nests. Their colonies reproduce by two methods – nuptial flights or fission.

Ants that create their nests in trees by putting leaves together are known as weaver ants. These creatures first force the leaves together with a bridge of workers & then they sew the leaves by pressing silk producing larvae on the leaves.

Honeypot ants generally have enlarged stomachs. They usually live in hot, dry places such as Australia, Africa, North America & they can be found in deserts as well. They are also considered a great delicacy in some places.

Leaf cutter ants live only within their colony and feed exclusively on fungus. These ants come in different sized castes to carry out various duties that are to be executed in the colony.

Ants that have a sac of poison are known as the fire ant. Their “poison” is known as piperidine alkaloids.

Lastly, one of the biggest & most primitive varieties of ants are the Australian bulldog ants. They have only 1 chromosome.
