Hey is a milk snake a good pet for kids? I need to know because i’ve been studying these snakes for a while now and
I know California king snakes and rat snakes are good but I need to know if a Eastern Milk Snake is good. Do they eat frozen mice? I also know they are constrictors. So far all the websites i’ve been at says their good kid snakes.

milk snakes and corn snakes are great starter snakes. they eat frozen mice. i would wait and get a corn snake after you are more experienced. (i’ll be honest-i’ve never had a snake. but i have been doing A LOT of research to get my corn, and even emailed a herp veteranarian a few times.i know what im saying)

Milks are usually flighty and do not care to be handled. They usually do not bite, but are quick and will escape a kids hand.

California kings are usually a little on the nippy side, so I wouldn’t recommend them for a kid either.

Corns are great first time snakes, as they are more forgiving with errors in husbandry. They will eat great and don’t mind being handled. Some babies are a little jumpy, so I would suggest getting one around a year old, as they have usually calmed down a bit by then.

All snakes can be taught to take frozen/thawed mice.

Many will recommend ball pythons, but I don’t recommend them myself, as they stress easily and will stop feeding if they are stressed. Some balls do not tolerate handling and will stop feeding because they are handled. I know as a kid I wanted to carry my first snake around with me.
