Cockroaches

Cockroaches are often considered pests, but can make unusual pets and are a very interesting species to keep and observe in a suitable vivarium.

There are around 4,000 species of cockroach worldwide, with about 30 species which thrive around human habitations and are considered pests. However, that is a very small number from such a diverse species. Exotic cockroaches from tropical climates tend to make fascinating pets and are often larger and more brightly coloured than those you see infesting houses. Many of these require higher temperatures than your average household so you don’t need to worry about them infesting your house if they do escape.

If you are interesting in learning more about keeping cockroaches as exotic pets please read our cockroach caresheets which provide more information on specific species.
